Calvin & Hobbes: Keeping the Legendary Cartoon Alive – Part 2

Letting go…

[Calvin & Hobbes cycling through the woods]

Calvin: Hobbes…

Hobbes: Yes, Calvin?

Calvin: You ever feel empty? Like when nothing is going your way, sadness, and you feel like what’s even the point of life?

Hobbes: Yeah, there are times…

Calvin: What do you do then? How do you get rid of that feeling?

Hobbes: I’m a tiger, I don’t think about it much, it just goes away…but you, you’re a human. Your species is complicated. You tend to hold on to things that are never really meant for you. You latch on to it hard enough for it to keep giving you a recurring feeling of pain and sadness…

Calvin: So what do we do then?

Hobbes: You need to learn to let go…

[Calvin is visibly confused, scratching his head]

Hobbes: The thing about life is, it keeps throwing unfavourable situations at you and you need to learn to tackle them. Letting something go is not easy, it takes a lot of courage. But, if you let something go that was never truly meant for you, you’ll understand that it isn’t that bad, after all. Holding on to things which aren’t meant for us will only give us pain… so, just let go…

Calvin: Jeez Hobbes! I just asked because I was hungry and mom won’t allow me to eat my favourite snack!

[Calvin pedals hard and zooms away, while Hobbes is left behind thinking how Calvin will one day understand what he meant, and hoped he’ll remember his words and would let go of what wasn’t meant for him…]
